The dismantling of alpha contaminated glove boxes(GBs)in MOX fuel fabrication facilities is currently performed manually by workers wearing air-fed suits. Although this method is technically established, reducing the workload and improving safety are necessary due to the limitations in working time caused by the physical burden and the risk of internal exposure when air-fed suits are damaged. To address these issues, we are developing a new decommissioning method called the “Advanced Smart Decommissioning System(A-SDS).” A-SDS adapts several technologies, including the replacement of manual operations with the remote operation of heavy machinery and shearing machines. We present the results of mock-up experiments on A-SDS technological elements for deployment at MOX fuel fabrication facilities
