To retrieve fuel debris inside the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, it is necessary to understand the condition of structures in the RPV and the radiation dose distribution. We have been developing Access-from-Top/Side Investigation Method as one of the inspection technologies under development that is expected to be implementable at an early stage. This method creates openings from the Dryer Separator Pit into the Primary Containment Vessel and the RPV to establish an access route into the RPV. An inspection equipment is then inserted through the opening to obtain information inside the RPV. This paper introduces the development of technologies for constructing the access route and for conducting inspections of the RPV interior.
