Prior to fuel debris retrieval at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, it is necessary to determine the condition of in-vessel structures and the distribution of fuel debris. In this project, access-from-bottom investigation method was developed, in which the investigation device is inserted from the X-6 penetration through the pedestal to the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) bottom, enabling in-vessel investigation. To verify technical feasibility of this method, test investigation equipment was fabricated, together with full-scale mock-ups of in-vessel structures along the access route and of the investigation targets. Verification tests of the access and inspection technologies demonstrated that video images and point-cloud data of the targets can be obtained.
