Based on the Fast Reactor Development Roadmap revised in December 2022, a conceptual study was conducted for a demonstration-scale metal fuel fabrication facility (10 tHM/y) in preparation for the 2026 fuel selection. This facility is designed for remote and automated operation using the injection casting method. To prevent the oxidation of metal fuel slugs, all equipment from the electrochemical reduction unit to the helium leak detector is designed to be arranged within hot cells under an inert gas atmosphere. The fabrication apparatuses layout was conducted based on a design that incorporates remote maintenance equipment, such as cranes and master-slave manipulators, for in-cell maintenance and repair.
