Understanding the properties of fuel debris generated in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station (1F) accident requires analytical techniques capable of handling multi-component systems and diverse chemical states. We have developed to build a multi-scale analytical platform ranging from millimeters to nanometers by utilizing advanced synchrotron radiation analysis techniques and the latest electron microscopy techniques, and integrating them with laboratory analysis. In this presentation, we will introduce these technological developments and demonstrate their application to the U-Fe-O system.
