[3C_PL02]Overview & Issues of Regulatory Compliance Works for Existing Facilities

It is widely recognized among personnel who have experience with the licensing review process for research reactors and other non-power nuclear facilities in Japan that the regulatory framework applicable to these facilities—particularly the rigor of licensing reviews—does not adequately incorporate the graded approach (GA). This tendency is generally perceived to become more pronounced as reactor power decreases.
This organized session aims to discuss the current status and future direction of the Japanese regulatory framework for water-cooled research reactors and other similar facilities from a broad perspective. The session will feature presentations by members of this division on analyses of regulatory information, identification of key regulatory issues, and proposals for providing feedback to the regulatory authorities to improve the regulatory framework. These presentations will be followed by an in-depth discussion on future directions.
