The chemical state of uranium contained in the vitrified waste is being investigated using XAFS measurements. To confirm differences in the chemical state of uranium due to the raw glass composition, uranium glass was melted by adding Na2U2O7 to borosilicate glass powders with varying alkali oxides (Li2O, Na2O, K2O, Rb2O). XAFS measurements and fluorescence emission measurements were performed on these uranium glasses to observe differences depending on the type of alkali oxide.
