Nuclear power operators in Japan have introduced risk-informed decision-making (RIDM), based on probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), into plant risk management, in addition to complying with the new regulatory requirements, in order to enhance safety beyond the regulatory framework, reflecting lessons from the Fukushima Daiichi accident and international operating experience. At KEPCO, we promote the use of risk information systematically across the organization, and are developing manuals and checklists that enable its application to front-line activities such as maintenance and operations, while accumulating practical experience starting from areas not directly tied to regulatory compliance. This paper presents our latest RIDM applications.
