TANNIX adsorbents are used to treat low-level radioactive liquid waste at the facility within the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The TANNIX adsorbent was planned to be incinerated, but issues were raised about the difficulty of recovering the uranium after incineration, and about corrosion inside the furnace due to the NOx generated during decomposition. Focusing on decomposition using subcritical water as a treatment method for TANNIX adsorbents, basic tests were conducted to evaluate its applicability, comparing treatment conditions of temperature, solid-liquid ratio, and heating time.
