Investigation of Common Neural Circuit Abnormalities in Psychiatric Disorders Using non-REM Spindle and Gamma Oscillation

It is essential to develop new technologies and to promote drug discovery from new perspectives for the progression of the diagnostics and therapeutics for CNS diseases. This symposium will address the following topics as new research findings aimed at social implementation. Dr. Yamamoto has succeeded in developing the visualization of ATP dynamics in live mice.This will make it possible to visualize ATP in various organs and is expected to greatly advance the elucidation of the pathophysiology of CNS diseases. Dr. Miwa has found common signs in CNS disorders based on a unique evaluation index of EEG data. Focusing on schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders, he will mention the possibility of EEG diagnosis. Dr. Naganuma focuses on the histaminergic system as a drug target for hypersomnia. He will discuss new perspectives for the treatment of hypersomnia. Dr. Maekawa discovered the importance of glial cell function regulated by lipid-related molecules in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Based on this finding, she has identified new drug targets and is conducting translational research. In this symposium, we will share with the participants the latest findings on the development of diagnostic and therapeutic methods for CNS disorders and deepen the discussion on the future development of this research area.
