Distinct prefrontal neuronal circuits determine repeated stress-induced behavioral styles in mice

The ability to behave appropriately according to past experiences and current internal and external states is essential for the survival of organisms. Abnormalities in such appropriate behavioral selection are associated with various diseases, including mental and neurological disorders, as well as metabolic disorders. To elucidate these physiological functions, interdisciplinary research that integrates anatomical understanding of neural circuits, high-resolution temporal and spatial analysis of physiological responses, and pharmacological knowledge to clarify pathologies is indispensable. Therefore, discussing these topics at the joint annual meeting of the Anatomical, Physiological, and Pharmacological Societies will lead to significant advancements in this interdisciplinary field. In this symposium, we will bring together four prominent researchers from each of the three societies who are actively engaged in this field. They will aim to integrate the dynamic states of the body, both internally and externally, with neural activities, and to provide a comprehensive understanding of wide-area circuits such as central-peripheral connections. This symposium will provide a platform to accelerate collaboration among researchers in a wide range of fields, including learning and memory, decision-making, emotions, stress, mental disorders, central-peripheral relationships, and metabolism.
