Examining the Role of Induced Hibernation-like States in Modulating Sleep Pressure

Many studies have shown that sleep is important for maintaining various physiological functions, including those of the brain. However, the substance of "drowsiness," which induces sleep, and the mechanism of its generation and resolution are still not well understood. Therefore, in order to create "drowsology," the science of drowsiness, outside the framework of conventional sleep research, we have launched the "Drowsology: Understanding of the mechanisms of generation and elimination of drowsiness" in the Transformative Research Areas (B) in FY2024. In this symposium, members of our research group will serve as symposium presenters and introduce the latest research results and state-of-the-art technological developments that support the promotion of research, which is not limited to sleep research. In addition to the members of our research group, a well-known sleep researcher will be invited as a symposiast. This is expected to lead to lively discussions on the relationship between sleep research and this field, and on the future direction of sleep and drowsiness research. This symposium is expected to provide not only an introduction to drowsiness research, but also useful information that will lead to the development of the symposium participants' own research.
