Mate choice and its molecular mechanism in female oxytocin mutant medaka

Sociality is the tendency of animals to develop social links and live in communities with others. In this symposium, we would like to overview research on social behavior with significant conspecifics such as spouses, parents/pups, siblings, and mates. In particular, we will introduce experimental strategies to elucidate mechanisms underlying mating, parental, and cooperative behavior of various animals from multidisciplinary points of view. Dr. Yokoi from Hokkaido University introduces neural/genetic basis underlying female mate choice. Dr. Amano from Hokkaido University introduces the analysis of the property and pharmacological manipulation of activity-dependently labeled neurons coding parenting or aggression. Dr. Matsumoto from the University of Tokyo talks about neural activity in the hippocampus and its surrounding areas in prairie voles. Dr. Kanno from Kagoshima University introduces ultrasound communication with others in mice. Dr. Takimoto from Hokkaido University talks about the observational and experimental study of the cooperative behavior of domestic horses. Throughout the presentation and discussion, we would like to provide a platform to deepen our understanding of social behaviors with someone important in various species.
