Joint Session : Science Council of Japan
Sleep is a familiar yet mysterious physiological phenomenon. Sleep and health issues are closely intertwined, as evidenced by the fact that sleep deprivation is a risk factor for metabolic and mental disorders, and one of the main symptoms of mental disorders is the deterioration of sleep. Since the 2010s, the elucidation of sleep control mechanisms from a basic medical perspective has progressed rapidly, and the development of clinical medicine based on new insights has begun. Additionally, the development and widespread adoption of new measurement devices, based on advances in information processing technology and precision machining technology, have made it possible to utilize sleep information for primary prevention and to promote health maintenance and improvement through "sleep health checkups."In the pursuit of maintaining and improving health, evidence-based healthcare approaches are essential. This symposium will explore next-generation healthcare from the perspective of basic medical research, featuring renowned speakers from industry, government, and academia who will give lectures centered around the theme of "sleep."
