Recent development of lymphology demonstrates importance of lymphatic system up to pathogenesis of various disorders including cancer metastasis and lymphedema from functional regulation of circulation and immunity, and further the glymphatic system has been highlighted as a new cerebral lymphatic system involved in onset of dementia. The symposiums held at the 120th (92nd) and 126th (98th) meetings of Japanese Association of Anatomists and Physiological Society helped to raise awareness of the importance of lymphology not only in the field of life science but also in those of medical engineering and drug discovery, paving the way for the development of its clinical applicability. The trend has continued to expand afterwards, and the lymphology is being developed based on a new concept created by multiple fields such as anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. This symposium will break a new vista of lymphology, which will contribute to the establishment of a well-being society through basic research, through lectures and discussions by young and female researchers conducting challenging research.
