The Volume EM method (Volume Electron Microscope), which enables three-dimensional observation of biological tissues, allows morphological observation at a resolution previously unattainable through FIB-SEM (Focused Ion Beam-Scanning Electron Microscopy). This technology achieves nanometer-level three-dimensional reconstruction of samples by combining sequential exposure of sample cross-sections using a focused ion beam (FIB) and high-resolution imaging using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Consequently, it is expected to contribute to various fields such as neuroscience, cell biology, and materials science, facilitating the mapping of neural circuits, observation of intracellular organelles, and analysis of fine structures within materials.
In this session, we will provide a detailed introduction to the Volume EM method using the state-of-the-art FIB-SEM, Hydra Bio.
