Physiology, pharmacology, and anatomy are considered to play a very important role in medical, dental, pharmaceutical, nursing, and veterinary education. Due to the nature of these subjects, it is desirable to provide "practical training" that allows students to experience these subjects firsthand, in addition to classroom lectures.On the other hand, however, it has become increasingly difficult to conduct these practical training programs in recent years. Medical departments at regional universities are finding it difficult to conduct practical training due to cutbacks in personnel and budgets. In addition, practical training using actual animals is also becoming more difficult every year due to animal welfare concerns and a lack of personnel with the skills and techniques required for such training.We plan to invite professors who are actually in charge of these various issues in their respective fields to discuss the problems they are facing and the measures they are taking to solve them. In addition, from the standpoint of anatomy, where practical training is the main focus, the importance of practical training in medical education and the required "image of practical training" will also be discussed. We have planned this symposium in the hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity for cross-academic discussion on the nature of "practical training" in medical and pharmaceutical education, and thereby provide an opportunity to review the nature of "practical training".
