Wed. Mar 19, 2025 4:40 AM - 6:30 AM UTC
Room 12
Oranizers :Wataru Nishimura (Department of Anatomy, Jichi Medical University) and Takashi Miki (Department of Medical Physiology, Chiba University, Graduate School of Medicine)
Pancreatic endocrine cells regulate glucose metabolism by secreting hormones such as insulin and glucagon, although they make up only 1% of the pancreatic cells. In diabetes, impaired mass and function of pancreatic endocrine cells results in glucose intolerance. Pancreatic β-cells, which secrete insulin in response to glucose stimulation, can be an excellent model for analyzing the relationship between cell structure and function and the functional changes in pathological situations at the molecular level, because experimental systems and marker molecules for analyzing these cells have established. This symposium will feature researchers who have developed cutting-edge research in the field of cell biology using original ideas and research methods and have revealed important knowledge related to metabolic control. With presentation of their latest research results, we would like to discuss the molecular mechanisms of how cell-specific structures or gene expressions relate to secretory function and cell differentiation together with their original methodology to obtain new finding.
