生体内では、混み合った環境において、タンパク質が天然構造へと効率よく折り畳まれている。このようなタンパク質の天然構造形成には、酸化還元酵素が関与している。この酵素は、タンパク質凝集抑制効果と、タンパク質内で速度論的に形成されたSS結合を熱力学的に安定なSS結合へ交換する性質を有している。この酵素の特性から着想し、高濃度タンパク質条件における酸化的タンパク質フォールディング促進剤開発を行った。
