Optical wireless communication offers significant advantages, including ultra-wide bandwidth, immunity to radio frequency interference, and high security, positioning it as a strong candidate for next-generation communication systems. Although various applications, including visible light communication (VLC) and Li-Fi, have been proposed, their deployment in practical settings remains limited compared to conventional radio-based technologies. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of optical wireless communication, covering its definitions, classifications, and technical characteristics, as well as recent advances in research, development, and deployment. Furthermore, a panel discussion with researchers and industry experts will address the challenges to practical implementation and explore future directions for broader adoption from both academic and industrial perspectives.
