【ハイライト講演】 本ジオパークのエリアには、カンブリア紀後期から第四紀更新世後期まで、古第三紀以外のほぼすべての時代（紀）の地層・岩石が分布し、更に岩石の種類としては堆積岩、火成岩、変成岩のすべてが存在する。メインテーマの巨大火砕流（阿蘇火砕流）は本地域を代表する地質で自然や文化を特徴づける要素であるが、多様な地質とそれらに繋がる自然や文化も組み込むことで、より深くて楽しいジオストーリーができることが期待される。 ※ハイライト講演とは．．．
