A reflective session (Part 1) examining the fundamental nature, role, and purpose of the planetarium. Presentations consider the planetarium as a theoretical medium, the recovery and challenges of U.S. planetariums in the post-pandemic era, the scholarly value of optical star projectors in Japan, and the philosophical meaning embedded in the planetarium space itself. Multiple perspectives are brought together to critically re-examine why planetariums matter to society.
