Large-scale deployment of REBCO conductors requires manufacturing of uniform, high critical current (Ic) tapes at a high throughput and a low cost. We have demonstrated an Advanced Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) process to fabricate 50-meter-long tapes with a Ic over 1,270 A/4mm at 4.2 K, 20 T. Since MOCVD is not limited by line-of-sight deposition, large-area growth is possible, that enables high throughput. High conversion efficiency of precursors to film that is feasible by Advanced MOCVD facilitates low-cost manufacturing. In-line quality control methods such as 2D X-ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, and Machine Vision, coupled with Machine Learning techniques are being developed to assure consistency in REBCO film quality to maintain a high Ic over long tapes. Our progress and outlook in the development of low-cost, high current REBCO conductors by Advanced MOCVD will be discussed in this presentation.
