Message from the Congress President

The 13th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Drug Safety

It is my great pleasure to announce that the 13th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Drug Safety will be held over two days, August 7 (Saturday) and 8 (Sunday), 2027, in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo. My name is Tomonori Nakamura, Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Keio University, and I will serve as Congress President. On the occasion of this meeting, I would like to extend a few words of greeting.

The Japanese Society of Drug Safety has continued its activities with the aim of maximizing the efficacy of medicines, minimizing adverse drug reactions, and contributing to the advancement of medical safety. The Annual Meeting likewise provides an important forum where professionals involved in medicines—including those from universities, medical institutions, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and contract research and development organizations—come together to share research findings and practical knowledge.

The theme of this meeting is:

“Toward the Realization of Precision Safety

— Personalized Drug Safety Guided by AI and DX”

In recent years, advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation (DX) have opened up new possibilities for ensuring drug safety, including the early detection of adverse-event signals through the use of medical big data and real-world data, as well as risk prediction based on individual patient characteristics.

At the same time, I believe that the “human element” remains essential to final decision-making and responsibility in healthcare, as well as to the fundamental nature of patient-centered care. AI and DX should not be viewed merely as tools for improving efficiency; rather, they should be utilized as reliable means of supporting healthcare professionals in making better decisions and protecting patients.

The “Precision Safety” advocated at this meeting refers not only to advanced information science and technology. It also encompasses practical knowledge developed in everyday clinical practice, including multidisciplinary collaboration, thoughtful prescription design, medication support, and incident analysis. In this sense, Precision Safety represents the pursuit of optimized drug safety tailored to each individual patient.

At the 13th Annual Meeting, in addition to the application of cutting-edge information science and technology, we will broadly address practical initiatives and research rooted in clinical settings. Through discussions from diverse perspectives, we hope to advance the realization of safe pharmacotherapy optimized for each patient.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at Hamamatsu Convention Hall and Keio University Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus. The Hamamatsucho and Shiba area, located near Tokyo Tower and Zojoji Temple, is an attractive district where history and urban functions exist in harmony. The organizing committee is working diligently to create a meeting that will offer not only opportunities for academic exchange but also an appreciation of the unique appeal of Hamamatsucho and Tokyo.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming many of you to the meeting. We hope that this gathering will prove fruitful and contribute to the further development of drug safety and medical safety.
