[3SL03-01]Novel HDL function index, "Cholesterol Uptake Capacity," and cardiovascular disease risk

Amane Harada (Leading Medical Research Group, Central Research Laboratories, Sysmex Corporation)
Previous epidemiological studies have shown that low HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) levels increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, recent research suggests that extremely high HDL-C levels may also be associated with increased mortality risk. This has shifted attention toward evaluating not only the "quantity" but also the "quality" and "function" of HDL
.We have developed a new metric for assessing HDL function named as Cholesterol Uptake Capacity (CUC), along with a fully automated immunoassay system. In this seminar, we will introduce the concept of CUC and present findings from clinical studies that reveal its association with cardiovascular disease risk.
