How should we deal with the frequent damage to embankments during earthquakes? (1)

Thu. Nov 23, 2023 9:15 AM - 10:45 AM JST
Thu. Nov 23, 2023 12:15 AM - 1:45 AM UTC
G415 PACIFICO Yokohama North, 4F
Chairperson: Mitsu Okamura (Ehime University)
In recent years, earthquake damage to road embankments, railway embankments, residential land developments, river embankments, agricultural reservoir embankments, and tailings dams has been frequent. Reasons include the lack of seismic design until recently and the weakening of fill materials, retaining walls, and drainage pipes after construction due to aging. In response, seismic design and inspections have recently been undertaken and countermeasures have been implemented. This session aims to discuss a wide range of topics, from clarification of the seismic behavior of embankments to investigation, design, inspection, and countermeasure methods.
