Nanoporous Cu is a promising methanation catalyst, but its brittleness is a challenge. Cu substrates was introduced to improve strength. An Al-Cu alloy bead was fabricated by laser additive manufacturing, then heat treated and selectively etched to form a hierarchical micro/nanoporous structure.
