The effects of In addition on the phase transformation and hardness of 60Cu–40Zn brass annealed at 523 K were investigated. The 1.0 mass% In alloy showed the highest hardness. TEM revealed a 9R α phase in the 0.1 mass% In alloy and an fcc α phase in the 1.0 mass% In alloy, indicating that In affects hardness through α-phase transformation.
