Since the Fukushima accident, the discussion of the risk of the nuclear power plants against the earthquake and tsunami is drawing the attention of the society. Among them, the risk evaluation of the NPP confronting the source region of interplate megathrust earthquakes is an issue in the immediate future, even for the earth scientists. This session aims to obtain a common recognition on the previous evaluation of risk of interplate earthquakes to NPP, recent evolution of risk assessment since the Fukushima accident on the basis of reviews of invitees. Furthermore, we discuss what we can do as earth scientists based on this recognition.
