The dry reforming of methane (DRM: CH4 + CO2 → 2H2 + 2CO) reaction is gaining attention as a method to convert greenhouse gases to valuable chemicals. In this study, we prepared Ni/SiO2 catalysts added with Group I-III elements and evaluated their DRM activity. Mg, La, and Ca-Ni/SiO2 showed high DRM activity in the order of Mg > La > Ca. In contrast, the Ni/SiO2 catalysts with Group I elements (K, Cs) did not show DRM activity. Characterization results suggested that the high activity of Ni-Mg/SiO2 is due to the high dispersion of Ni particles.
