Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) is attracting attention as a technology that can reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. However, it has been reported that possible CO2 leakage from the reservoirs occurred in some of the CCS pilot tests overseas. Although numerical simulation is used for CO2 leakage risk assessment, compositional simulation on long-term, geological CO2 storage studies is computationally expensive. In this study, we developed a black-oil simulator that incorporates a CO2-brine PVT model and performed a leakage risk assessment for CO2 storage in saline aquifers.
