In response to issues such as marine plasitic problems and global warming, there has recently been a growing movement to promote the 3Rs of plastics and to regulate their use worldwide. In this issue, I will summarize domestic trends in plastics recycling and briefly introduce the negotiations for a treaty to impose international regulations on plastics, which are currently being discussed by the INC (Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee) of the United Nations Environment Committee.
