The implementation of robust ground support techniques is critical to both safety and economic success of underground mineral-production. Establishing the types of support mechanisms and techniques needed in different rock formations is challenging, and even more so in seismically active underground mines. As shallower mineral resources become depleted, mining operations are increasingly compelled to exploit deeper formations. The high stress and unique rock properties of these deep rock formations complicate the design of ground support. This study examines effective ground support techniques with a focus on seismic data collection tools and factors that guide the selection of appropriate support strategies across various mining environments.
