Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an inexhaustible source of C1 carbon, and research on its transformation to useful starting materials has been extensively studied in recent years. Although catalytic hydroboration of CO2 is a useful approach to synthesize methanol precursor, the development of homogeneous catalytic system for the reduction of CO2 to methane has been quite limited. Here we describe the reduction of CO2 to methane by the hydrosilylation catalyzed by zirconium/B(C6F5)3.
