Methanolysis is a well-known chemical recycling process for polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which produces high-purity raw materials equivalent to those derived from petroleum. However, this process typically requires high temperature and pressure, leading to a significant energy consumption. This study investigates solid catalysts and a reaction system that can efficiently proceed at room temperature. By using planetary ball mill and adding a small amount of metal oxide as a catalyst, the reaction efficiently proceeded, achieving a high yield of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT).
