The monocarboxylic acid (3-hydroxypropionic acid; 3-HA), an oxidation product of 1,3-propanediol (PDO), can be upgraded to high-value derivatives. However, there are few reports on electrocatalysts that can synthesize 3-HA from the PDO oxidation, and the mechanism of PDO oxidation is still unclear. In this study, we focused on Ni electrocatalysts that are known for their activity in the electro-oxidation of alcohols. In the electro-oxidation of PDO, electrolysis conditions such as oxidation potential and current density affected the formation of 3-HA.
