Alcoholysis is one of the most important strategies for the depolymerization of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into monomers, but the efficiency still needs to be improved. Herein, we examined the prepared CeO2 nanorods and found that the efficiency of PET methanolysis is enhanced with increasing the oxygen vacancy (Ov) content of CeO2 nanorods. The CeO2 nanorods exhibited superior performance compared to conventional and commercially available catalysts.
