[2E11] Screening of polyethylene- and polypropylene-degrading microorganisms

To develop a new recycling system of polyethylene and polypropylene, we screened microorganisms capable of degrading and assimilating polyethylene and polypropylene. We isolated 11 microorganisms that degraded 0.1~0.2% or 0.3~1.0% of low- or high-density polyethylene during a 7-days cultivation at 30ºC. Likewise, we isolated 8 microorganisms degraded 0.1~6.7% of polypropylene at 37ºC in 10 days. In this presentation, we will report degradation profiles of polyethylene and polypropylene by microorganisms.
