In this study, a direct methane reforming reaction (DMR), a type of hydrogen production method, was performed, in which methane is directly converted into hydrogen and carbon without CO2 emissions. Fe- and Ni-based catalysts currently under investigation are unsatisfactory in terms of activity and reaction sustainability. In addition, Ni is a relatively expensive material, so we are aiming to develop a catalyst from less expensive materials. In this study, we attempted to improve the catalysts by using commercial, naturally occurring natural iron oxides and various catalyst preparations to show activity even with inexpensive catalysts.
