Photochemical reaction has gathered much attention as a promising technology for conversion of various molecules. Interfacial charge transfer (IFCT), which is charge transfer transition from adsorbed molecules to heterogeneous photocatalysts, can activate a target moelcule efficeintly through an inner-sphere-type electron transfer. In the present study, we found that nitrogen-containg heteroaromatics such as 9-methylacridine can give rise to the IFCT, and photooxidation of the side chain methyl group proceeds through the IFCT.
