We previously reported that glucose can be efficiently converted into C4 and C2 fragments via retro-aldolization catalyzed by Nb2O5 and in-situ acetalization using zeolite catalysts. In this study, we develop a bifunctional catalytic system by supporting Nb2O5 on MFI zeolite with encapsulated platinum clusters to enable subsequent hydrogenation of the resulting C4 and C2 fragments. This integrated catalyst efficiently converted glucose into corresponding C4 and C2 polyhydric alcohols in a one-pot manner.
