Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is one of the most widely produced plastics in the world. Chemical recycling or depolymerization of PET has been recognized as an important technology for addressing concerns about plastic waste. We herein successfully demonstrate the up the acid-, base-free depolymerization of PET pellets (even at a 30.0-gram scale) using methanol or ethanol, catalyzed by FeCl3 - amine catalyst system. This process exclusively produced dimethyl (DMT) or diethyl terephthalate (DET) and ethylene glycol (EG) (98–99%, 140–160 °C). The details will be introduced in the symposium.
