Cu-based alumina catalysts prepared using sol-gel method are excellent for direct synthesis of dimethyl ether by CO and/or CO2 hydrogenation, because Cu sites (active species for methanol formation) and acid sites (Al2O3) which are the active species for methanol dehydration are close to each other and are highly dispersed. In this study, the activity of the direct synthesis of DME from CO2 has been improved by preparing the acid catalysts Al2O3-SiO2, which work for methanol dehydration, using the sol-gel method.
