Significant thinning was observed on the tube sheet surface of the tube bundle at the seawater-side inlet of a specially shaped seawater heat exchanger. To investigate the cause, flow analysis was conducted, which revealed that turbulence occurred due to the length of the inlet piping and the unique shape of the heat exchanger, resulting in damage caused by inlet attack. As a countermeasure, mitigating the corrosion rate through shape modifications was considered. This presentation introduces the case covering the analysis results, cause identification, and formulation of improvement measures.
