Hydrotreating-based co-processing of petroleum feedstocks and biomass-derived oils has attracted increasing attention as a promising route for refinery decarbonization and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. In this study, the effects of oxygenated compounds on the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) and straight-run gas oil were investigated. Co-processing experiments were conducted using model oxygenates and waste cooking oil, followed by kinetic analysis based on the Langmuir–Hinshelwood model. The results indicated that oxygenated compounds inhibit HDS reactions through competitive adsorption on active sites, and the extent of inhibition depends strongly on their adsorption characteristics. Furthermore, waste cooking oil components were found to adsorb preferentially over sulfur compounds, resulting in a decrease in desulfurization rate.
