In the development of reduced metal catalysts, evaluating the degree of reduction of catalysts coated with protective agents has been a key challenge. This study investigated a thermal analysis-based method that enables removal of the protective agent and the subsequent evaluation of the degree of reduction in a single sequence. The degrees of reduction obtained by this method showed good agreement with those of the catalysts prior to coating, as determined by a conventional method. These results indicate the applicability of this method to protective agent-coated Fischer–Tropsch synthesis catalysts. This method is expected to be useful for catalyst development and quality control.
