We focused on the effects of trace amounts of alkali cations (approximately 0.05–0.5 wt%) added during synthesis on the crystallization behavior of ZSM-5. We used carbonates of various alkali metals as additives, varied the addition levels while suppressing pH changes caused by the addition of alkali cations, and evaluated the crystallization behavior and framework composition. By integrating the results of multiple characterization methods to construct crystallization curves, we quantitatively elucidated the effects of trace alkali metals. We report that even at trace levels, alkali cations cause changes in particle size and crystal morphology as the addition amount varies and exerts a clear influence on the framework composition.
