As a sustainable alternative to conventional petrochemical routes, the synthesis of terephthalic acid through Diels–Alder reactions of biomass-derived furan compounds has gained significant attention. In this study, the highly reactive formyl group was protected to establish a reaction process operable under mild conditions. Furthermore, the catalytic functions contributing to the promotion of Diels–Alder reactions of furan compounds were elucidated, and the associated reaction mechanism was investigated.
