Selective hydrogenation of quinoline derivatives offers an effective route to tetrahydroquinoline motifs, important building blocks in pharmaceutical and fine-chemical synthesis. Herein, a low-loading Ru (0.11 wt%) catalyst supported on melamine-derived graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was designed for selective quinoline hydrogenation. Compared with other precursor-derived g-C3N4 supports, melamine- derived g-C3N4 provides a favorable support environment for Ru species, contributing to improved catalytic performance in quinoline hydrogenation. The combination of low Ru loading and the tailored carbon nitride framework enables highly selective hydrogenation under mild conditions, establishing precursor-controlled carbon nitride engineering as an effective strategy for achieving efficient catalysis at low metal loading.
