Hydration of alkynes is one of the important reactions in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fragrances, and functional materials. Although homogeneous catalysts (e.g., mercury salts and cationic gold complexes) have been widely employed for this reaction, heterogeneous catalytic systems remain largely underexplored. In this study, we report that activated carbon-supported Au nanoparticles function as a highly active heterogeneous catalyst for selective hydration of alkynes to ketones. We further demonstrate that amine additives play a crucial role in controlling catalytic performance, with their structures markedly influencing both activity and selectivity. These findings provide new insights into heterogeneous gold catalysis for alkyne hydration.
